Richmond GREENS Stands with many others Against War and Pollution

GREENS Link Oil Giant Chevron to Iraq War
About 500 people attended the event at the Chevron refinery in Richmond which included speeches, music by the Brass Liberation Orchestra, step dancing, street theater and a protest march. Protesters wielded placards linking the war in Iraq, America’s avidity for oil, and health problems in Richmond. The inscriptions included,
No war, (no) warming, (no) empire“;
Fight toxic racism“;
End Chevron crimes from Richmond to Iraq“;
Shut down Guantanamo“; “Oil=Blood
and “Boycott Chevwrong 24/7

Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, a Green, spoke at the rally. “It’s time to clear the smoke of lies, the smoke of pollution and the smoke of war,” McLaughlin told the crowd. sfgate.com
Dr. Henry Clark, director of the West County Toxics Coalition, and a Green was one of the organizers demanding the end or war and pollution. “People have the power to stop the refinery any time we want to, to stop the processing of stolen Iraqi oil,” he said.
24 were arrested at the Chevwrong protest demonstration against the Iraq war and the proposed Chevwrong plant upgrade was otherwise ‘controlled and orderly’.
